Working With James

Today we did a short task about column addition and subtraction. I enjoyed how we got to try out our skills and work together. What I found challenging was remembering exactly how to work out the question I got because I didn't exactly think it through first but I was lucky to have my friends there to remind me how to work it out.

Term 3 Goals: Writing

Where am I at?
I am currently at 6P in my writing which I’m pretty happy about because I am almost at where I want to be which is a 6A. I currently have no strengths but my achieved are:
Structure
Organisation
Sentence

Why am I there?
I was able to have these in my achieved because I am very passionate about writing and I love every type of writing because it just let’s be free my imagination and ideas. I was able to put a lot of detail into my sentences.

Where to next?
I don’t exactly have any to be achieved because they’re all in gaps, even though I was good at them last term, meaning I have to work on them very hard this term to get that back into either strengths or achieved. The gaps I have to work on are:
Ideas
Vocabulary
Punctuation
Spelling.

I am going to work quite hard on these because these ones are the things I really want in my achieved or strengths and getting those into achieved or strengths may also mean I could reach my goal of getting 6A.

Term 3 Goals: Reading

Where am I at with reading?
I am currently a 4A in reading which was the highest we could get in our tests
For my strengths I have a couple of strengths and they are:
Being able to understand details in the story that tells you about the main idea.
Being able to know the meaning of different words, sounds, symbols, and visual bits of language placed in the story.
To figure out what the author wrote and question what it means.

Why am I there?
I was able to have these in my strengths because I worked hard on them and understand the details in the story that tells me about the main idea, I made sure that while I was reading I was trying to figure out the main idea as well as what’s happening in the text.

Where to next?
I do have a lot to work on but that just means that I am going to be busy this term and have a lot to do! The things that I have to work on are:
To keep reading to understand the meaning of the text
To make a conclusion or assumption
To choose accurate and logical information

To talk about and find important parts of the text

Term 3 Goals: Maths

Where am I at?
In my maths I have finally been able to get slightly above the National Standard and I am at 4P. I am still trying to reach the 5’s. My strengths in maths are:
To find a fraction or percentage of an amount
To order decimals using tenths, hundredths, and thousandths
To make a fraction as a decimal, and a decimal as a fractional
To write and solve problems by multiplying and dividing decimals
As you can see I have quite a few but I want more in there.

Why am I there?
I was able to have these in my strengths because I have been working on fractions and decimals quite hard because I was really bad at them last term. But I’m still trying to work on my multiplication and division.

Where to next?
I have a lot to work on in maths because it’s one of my weak subjects but this term I am going to put in more effort than I did last term.
My to be achieved subjects are:
To arrange numbers by factors and multiples, including primes
To tell the meaning of digits in numbers using tenths, hundredths, and thousandths
To write and solve whole number and decimal problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
I’m going to work on these and try and get these into achieved or strengths to move up higher into a higher level. I also need to work on my multiplication still as I’m not very great at them.

Narrative with James

This is the first two paragraphs of the narrative that I wrote. We worked with James and made an audio to go with our stories. I got James to read it for me. Enjoy!

Victoria sat up, rubbing her forehead as a sharp pain pierced her head. She lowered her hand, looking down at it and saw a thick line of crimson blood smeared on her hand. She felt a pang of panic shoot through her mind as she scrambled to get up off the hard wooden floor. Victoria rushed to a dusty mirror that was leaning against the wall, she wiped the dust off and looked at her reflection. Her once beautiful long dark blonde hair was messy and had patches of dried blood here and there. Her green eyes opened wide in horror and she saw her favourite black t-shirt and jeans were torn and she instantly knew that this work was made by either a knife or sword. Gazing at the reflection she ran her hands along her bruised and scratched arms.

Victoria looked away from the mirror and stumbled towards a small padded armchair next to a small coffee table, she sat down and looked around the room to see if she could remember where she was. The walls had white wallpaper torn and dusty. The wooden furniture around her looked old and broken. A single bed was pushed to the corner of the room, it had a torn sheet laid over the dirty mattress and the pillows looked damp and uncomfortable. She saw a bit of light spread across the floor and lifted her head to see a dusty cracked window with torn white cotton drapes drawn to the sides. Getting up she headed through a small hallway and walked out the front door, turning around she looked at the house and noticed that it hasn’t been lived in for a long time, with the stairs broken and windows smashed, graffiti staining the walls, overgrown plants and ivy climbing the walls, huge hedges surrounded the property. She headed down a short broken concrete path and opened a huge black gate.
